Marketplace Rules
How listings, auctions, offers, escrow and transfers work — and what is not allowed.
Marketplace Rules
Template notice. This document is a template provided with the BuildMarket platform. It has not been reviewed by counsel for your jurisdiction or business. Replace or approve it in the admin panel before public launch.
1. Listing standards
- List only digital assets you own or have the right to sell or license.
- Describe the product accurately. Screenshots must be of the actual product.
- Clearly separate verified data (read from connected accounts) from seller-reported data. Never claim a metric is verified when it is not.
- One listing per project. Duplicate listings are removed.
- Sensitive details (customer lists, credentials, detailed financials) belong in the deal room, not the public listing.
2. Auctions
- Default duration is 7 days; sellers may choose 3, 5, 7 or 14 days.
- Sellers set a starting bid and may set a reserve and a Buy Now price. Buy Now is available until the reserve is met (or until the first bid when there is no reserve).
- The server clock is authoritative. A bid placed in the final 2 minutes extends the auction by 2 minutes (anti-sniping). Extensions are shown on the listing.
- Sellers, their associates and anyone acting on their behalf may not bid. Shill bidding results in permanent removal.
- Bids are binding. A winning bidder who does not proceed to escrow within the agreement window may be suspended and lose bidding privileges.
- Sellers may cancel an auction only before the first bid, or if the listing is found to violate these rules.
3. Offers
Fixed-price listings can accept private offers. The seller may accept, reject or counter. An accepted offer creates a binding transaction.
4. Transactions and escrow
- A transaction is created when an auction ends with the reserve met, an offer is accepted, or Buy Now is used.
- Both parties accept the transaction terms within 72 hours.
- The buyer funds the escrow account with the regulated escrow provider. BuildMarket never holds these funds.
- The seller transfers the assets following the Asset Transfer Checklist.
- The buyer inspects the assets during the inspection period (default 7 days) and confirms receipt.
- The escrow provider releases funds to the seller and the BuildMarket success fee is settled within the escrow transaction structure.
5. Asset transfer standards
- Follow each provider's official transfer process (for example App Store and Google Play app transfers, registrar domain transfers, GitHub repository transfers).
- Never transfer entire personal accounts where the provider prohibits it.
- Never paste passwords, API keys or secrets into messages. Credentials are rotated by the new owner after transfer.
- Log every step in the checklist. The checklist is the record of what was delivered.
6. Off-platform circumvention
Do not take a transaction that started on BuildMarket off-platform to avoid fees. Doing so forfeits BuildMarket protections and results in removal.
7. Disputes
Either party can open a dispute from the transaction page while escrow funds are held. See the Dispute Process.
8. Enforcement
We may remove listings, cancel auctions, suspend accounts and report fraud to authorities. Decisions can be appealed by contacting support@buildmarket.com.
